The Color Photography Competition 2009 is a local photography contest organized by CENTER FOR CREATIVE INDUSTRIES (CCI). The contest aims to boost the productivity of the local creative talents, in the form of a competition and the resulting exhibition at gallery CREATIVE MACAU.
Macau is a small city with rich blend of culture, history and buildings. Fascinated interior architecture design of the buildings with strong local cultural features could not be found else where but everywhere in Macau. In fact, these interior architecture designs are strongly associated with the local social culture and be recognized as the fashion indicator of the general society in the period of the construction completion. Thereupon, it makes the interior architecture designs reflected the Sociocultural Identity. That is what we call it the VOICES OF MACAU and this is the theme of this particular contest.
Entrants are required to tell a story with a series of 6 photos about these voices through the exploration of interior architecture designs of the old and contemporary social, commercial, industrial, religionary and historical buildings etc. To be able to link with the key issue “Sociocultural Identity” will be the most critical point of the competition. However, decidedly different from the usual photo competitions in the city, this photo competition offers an opportunity to all entrants to exploit their creative potentials. As a piece of digital or analogue color photography is the departing point to excellence of the final product, but goes beyond it, focusing on the printout of original photos enhanced by the MASTERLY OF MANIPULATIONS TECHNIQUES, which can include the use of dark room, any software programs, hand applied coloring or emulsions, mixed media and even making an image that mergers photography with graphic, drawing, painting, collage and other mean.
In this connection, the conceptual quality, group coherence, creativity and the quality of the edited final images will be the main criteria for the selection.
The competition is open to all Macau residents (permanent and temporary) that must be over 16 years of age on 31st August 2009. Only individual entries are allowed and each entry must carry 6 images presented as an exhibition series with a unifying concept. The judges are seeking dynamic and distinguishing images which portray a compelling narrative. Only photographs in color are acceptable. Images must fall into the criteria of the photo contest theme and print on glossy photo paper. (please refer to the rules)
The jury, consisting of respected photographers, visual arts and publishing professionals as well as the organizers and sponsors, will base their decisions on the series of images submitted and designate five winners for BANCO NACIONAL ULTRAMARINO AWARD, CREATIVE MACAU AWARD, MACAU BUSINESS AWARD, CANON AWARD.
