In collaboration with L.I.A. (Animated Image Lab),  CREATIVE MACAU is organizing the Animation Film Production Course for professionals and artists to the production and techniques of animation.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course is designed to introduce young professionals and artists to the production process and techniques of animation and to provide the participants with basic skills and technical advice in order to be able to produce and distribute their own work.
The course will be taught by animation professionals that specialize in different techniques and stages of the animation production process.
A maximum of 15 students per class and the students will receive a 7 days, 21 hours course.
A website will be created to function as a virtual meeting point so the teachers and students can be in contact after the course.

COURSE OUTLINE
INTRODUCTION TO ANIMATION

  • History of animation, from Meliés to present day.
  • This will be supported by film screenings and graphic materials.

OTHER ANIMATION TECHNIQUES

  • Animation with objects.  Hands-on exercise.
  • Animation with persons (pixelation). Hands-on exercise.
  • Animation with sand, oil paint and sand on glass.  Building of a light box.  Hands-on exercise.
  • Animation with cutouts.  Character construction.
  • Time lapse animation.  Hands-on exercise.
  • Animation with light, mixed media.  Hands-on exercise.

PLANNING A SHORT FILM

  • Idea development.
  • Script development.
  • Character, set, shoot planning.
  • Story board.
  • Brief introduction to lighting.

SHOOTING A SHORT FILM

  • Introduction to digital equipment.
  • Shooting times, frames per second, duration of each shot.
  • Camera setting.
  • Chroma effect and cycles.
  • Planning and tricks for character movement.
  • Shooting space, things to consider.

MUSIC AND ANIMATION

  • Relationship between music and animation, frames and music tempo.
  • Film soundtrack.

INTRODUCTION TO POST PRODUCTION

  • Film and video editing software.
  • Film editing, frame, shot, scene.
  • Sound editing software.
  • Voice recording, foley, special effects.
  • Recording a soundtrack.

INTRODUCTION TO PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION

  • Budgets and calendars.
  • Financing sources.
  • Showing your film (festivals, internet, etc.)
  • Selling your film (buyers, selling the rights, etc.)

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Digital camera.
  • Own laptop computer
  • Digital sound recorder.
  • Camera with tripod.
  • Old magazines with color photographs for cutouts.
  • Water based acrylic paint (assorted colors).

ABOUT L.I.A (Animated Image Lab) 
L.I.A. was founded in Madrid, Spain,  an artist´s Project studio aims to promote the production of independent animation through travelling workshops given around the world in communities whose access to animation instruction is limited.  So far, participating artists have held workshops in Spain, Portugal, Serbia, Turkey, Mexico, Honduras, Venezuela, Iran, India, Equatorial Guinea, Senegal, Egypt, Jordan, Ethiopia and Morocco.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
COKE RIOBÓO is a Stop motion Animation director,  Producer and Composer whose latest animation “Made In Spain” won the “Best Animation” award in Sound & Image Challenge International Festival 2016.
