Art is life in shards. For Macau-based multidisciplinary artist Cheang Chi-Tat , one crafts art not from deliberate calculation, but breathes creation into every moment of one’s life, thus rendering art in faithful records of one’s life.
Chi-Tat toggles between the disciplined framework of design work and the boundless freedom of artistic expression, with creation anchoring his entire life. Hosting a five-day weekly radio programme lends his visual art a natural musical beat and tonal flow that defines his signature style. Having taken part in pivotal shows including Highway Star (2019), Parallel Universe (2022), When Tat Chi Meets Chi Tat (2023) and Art Macao’s Synchronicity (2023), Chi-Tat unveils his brand-new solo exhibition Dark Shards.
This exhibition turns unspoken thoughts from busy days and inspirations stirred by radio tunes into scattered shards of darkness. As a collector and conductor of the night, Chi-Tat sorts these tunes and scattered pieces in rhythmic order, reorganising chaos to forge clear, meaningful narratives on canvas.
Shards – being scattered is but a beginning to rebirth after the end. Let us explore and find the resonance of our life lingering within these rhythm-laden, dark shards.
