Helder D’Almeida

Born in Angola, raised in Portugal and living around the world since around 1994, in countries such as UK, France, Australia and Macao, where he is now resident.

Since 1991 he got involved with Photography and Video making through a University Teacher called António Ventura, where he later became his disciple, a friend and a working partner. As a photographer he has had several group exhibitions and a couple solo exhibitions in Portugal and Australia, as several published portfolios in newspapers. He has also taught photography subjects in several schools and he has extended experience on laboratorial and studio work techniques such as, documental, art reproduction, conservation, restoration and archeological photographic purposes. Some of other important techniques acquired along the years are Cibachrome development, infrared and ultraviolet photography, X-Rays, microscopy photographs among others.

As a Video and Filmmaker he started experimented on this media at his early ages with his grand father, Ernesto Martins. In 1998 he participated as a director assistant in a TV film series for RTP (national Portuguese TV Station) and in 1999 worked as an assistant director and later as a director at the local TV station called TDM. For this station besides the daily news work he participated on several documentary and TV projects. Recently he was awarded in a jointed video production with Cabell Chan, the First Prize for the Video Competition “Old Images New Life” held by the Cultural Institute of Macao in 2002. Later, at the celebration of the sixth Lusofonia Festa in Macao, the Institute Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao awarded him the First Prize on a video competition held in Macao in 2003.
