Mário Paulo da Silva Duarte Duque

Born in Lisbon, 1962

Mário Paulo da Silva Duarte Duque completed his Degree in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Universidade Técnica, Lisbon, in 1985. Between 1985 and 1987, he undertook his post-graduate apprenticeship as a guest student at the Higher School of Applied Arts, Vienna at the class of Prof. Wilhelm Holzbauer.

His professional activity began in 1983 with his collaboration in architectural practices in Lisbon.

Between 1985 and 1987 he worked for the restoration of old buildings in Vienna.

In 1989, he joined Profabril in Lisbon, and two years later moved to Macau, taking up a post in the local delegation of the same firm.

He started his own practice in Macau in 1993.

Noteworthy among his completed projects: the present installations of the Macau Grand Prix Circuit; the renovation and expansion of the Dom José da Costa Nunes Nursery School; the Superior Courts of Macau, the International Library of Macau University, the Legislative Assembly and others and the New Psychiatric Ward in Taipa.

In neighbouring Zhuhai, China, he was consultant for the planning of the Paradise Hotel as well as the commercial building, the Manhattan Plaza.

Mário Duque has, moreover, a teaching practice (1989-91) as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Architecture, at the Lusíada University in Lisbon.
