João Ó

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, 1977. Currently, is a candidate for a master degree in architecture and urban culture at Centro de Cultura Contemporanea de Barcelona. Obtained his diploma in architecture from “Faculdade de Arquitectura Universidade

Técnica de Lisboa” in 2001 and is a registered architect both in Lisbon Architecture Association (OASRS) and Macau Public Works (DSSOPT).

For most part of his youth he lived in Macao. He then, returned after his studies abroad to work as a full-time architect at OBS Arquitectos, Lda. Besides his professional practice, as an artist he has a diligent interest in unorthodox ways of perception and cognitive experiments within the scope of private and public realms. He participated on collective exhibitions in several countries and held individual exhibitions in Portugal, Hong Kong and Macau.

He has been awarded professionally in both fields as an architect and also as an artist. Most notably: 2008 – Awarded winner in the category of Architecture and Interior by Perspective Magazine (HK) profiled in August issue “40 under 40” in recognition of excellence and outstanding contribution to the field of architecture; 2007 – auctioned paintings at Casa de Portugal for charity fund to East Timor; held solo exhibition Creative Industries – Macau Cultural Center; 2006 – One of five emergent artists from Pearl River Delta Region PRD to exhibit in ParaSite Gallery, Hong Kong, curated by Tobias Berger; 2005 – One of nine creative artists to represent Macao in Experimaneta Design, Lisbon Design Biannual; Awarded best work in installation category of the 16th Macao Arts Festival.

This site specific architectural installation is a rendition of a projected virtual image – done all over the glass facade, floor, column and wall – that operates as a spatial map within the limitations of the existing gallery.
