António Duarte Mil-Homens

António Duarte Mil-Homens was born in Lisbon in 1949. Essentially self-taught, he holds qualifications from the Portuguese Association of Photographic Art and attends a number of photographic workshops. In 1984 he became a publicity photographer, working for various agencies and companies including food producers, cosmetics, textile, automobile, telecommunications, glass and crystal manufacturers, as well as official departments like Lisbon City Hall and Macau Leal Senado, doing studio photography, reportage, aerial and scientific photography.

From June 1987 to January 2005, he worked as a photographer in the Institute for Advanced Agronomy Studies in Lisbon, capturing photo and video images for teaching support and investigation, with thousands of images published on thesis and communications in Portugal and overseas. He has held ten individual photographic exhibitions – the last ones “Macao, forever” at Venetian Macao and “Myanmar Prayers” at Jabber Café & Boutique – and participated in 15 collective exhibitions, including the first and third Expovisions in Lisbon, in 1985 and 1987 and, as part of the APAF contingent, exhibitions in Paris and Moscow.

His work was also part of Art in the Plain 2006 – Painting, Sculpture and Photography Expo, in Montemor-o-Novo. Work was also shown at the DECMacau Art Collective in Lisbon, in 2009. Honored at a number of photography competitions, he was also a Jury member in a few ones, for example the first three City of Lisbon Floral Games (2000, 2001 and 2002). On the invitation of students’ associations and other institutions such as the House of Portugal in Macau, he organized and taught 15 photography courses. His work has been published in dozens of books, for example: “Macau – The Last 100 Days of the Empire”,- José Pedro Castanheira, 2000 – Publicações D. F. Ullmann, 2009 – Ullmann Publishing; “Macao, forever” – António Duarte Mil- Homens, 2009 – De Ficção Multimedia Projects and Casa de Portugal in Macao.
